Hello World?

One of the biggest frustrations of having been an executive in a large technology corporation is figuring out what to do with your opinion. You may have one, and it may - or may not - be aligned with whatever your leadership team believes. More importantly, unless you happen to have an amazing charter, where your opinion gets to be the de facto opinion of the entire organization, you will find yourself in constant disagreement with your own teammates. In a large organization, forward progress is only made via consensus. It's understandable that if you are trying to get something done, public disagreements would be something you would seek to avoid.

For this reason, it has been all but impossible for me to do what I am doing right now: Start a blog. It is not a lack of outspoken opinion. I have lots of those. However, now that I have left the corporate nest, I can focus on the facts as I see them, and less on the consequences of my pernicious opinion on the troops. I promise to be reality-based, marketing-neutral, and no less irreverent than I have ever been. Those of you who know me know that I have always enjoyed talking about technology, strategy, innovation and leadership. I hope that I can now extend that dialog a little, and maybe make myself and a few other people just a bit smarter.

Hello World!
